LITITZ, Pa. - George C. Hicks of Lititz, formerly of Angola Neck, Del., passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, at Landis Homes, Lititz. He was 75.

Born in Maytown, he was the son of the late Charles and May (Rettew) Hicks, and was the husband of the late Edythe L. Edwards Hicks, who passed away December 1999.

A graduate of Donegal High School, Mr. Hicks went into service with the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, having served on the USS San Pablo.

After his service, he attended Millersville State College.

In February 1957, Mr. Hicks began his career with the Lititz Police Department, and in March of 1961 was promoted to chief of police in Lititz until he retired on Dec. 31, 1965.

In 1969, he graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Chiefs of Police Association. Mr. Hicks was also the first elected president of the Lancaster County Police Chiefs Association on Jan. 8, 1975.

He enjoyed fishing, reading, woodworking and doing crossword puzzles.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his sons, Scott W. Hicks of Oakland, Calif., Ross B. and his wife Mary Ann Hicks of Milford, Del., and Charles C. and his wife Angela L. Hicks of Wrightsville; three grandchildren, Ross B. II, Samantha and Cameron; two sisters, Louise and her husband Harry Schuster of Warminster, and Margaret and her husband David Schaeffer of Rocky Hill, N.J.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his life celebration service from the West Bethany Chapel of Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Donald W. Good officiating.

Interment will be held in the Reformed Church Cemetery, Maytown. The family will receive friends at the Bethany Chapel at 1 p.m. Thursday until the time of service.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be sent in George"s memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
