CAMDEN - Rick, son of Virginia T. and Frederick "Fred" A. Phillips, was born Oct. 19, 1951 in Cambridge, Md. The family moved to Wyoming, Del. in 1959 and later made their home in Camden, Del. Rick was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, class of 1969, and Lear Siegler Institute, class of 1970. He left Delaware in 1974 to pursue his dream of driving across country and chose to make his home in northern California where he met and married the love of his life, Chandra Greene, in 1982. Chandra and Rick made their home in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains where they built and enjoyed their log home on several acres of beautiful countryside. Rick was an entrepreneur operating a transportation business in Sacramento for more than 30 years. As an adult, he replicated many of his childhood experiences of boating, fishing, and water skiing on the waterways of California as he had done on the Choptank and Honga Rivers, Chesapeake and Delaware Bays, and the Atlantic Ocean. He also enjoyed duck hunting in the Sacramento area as he had done in Dorchester County, Md. and Kent County, Del. Each year he returned to vacation with his parents and spent time at their Ocean City, Md. summer residence. It was during these times that he joined his father, Captian Fred, aboard the "Virginia" for deep sea fishing, which resulted in many memorable catches and delicious meals prepared by his mother, Virginia. He was predeceded in death by his sister, Jean Phillips. Rick passed away peacefully, but suddenly, on Feb. 27, 2013 in the California home that he loved. Surviving him are his beloved wife, Chandra; his parents, Virginia T. and Fred A. Phillips of Camden, Del.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa P. and Dennis Blades of Seaford, Del., Emilie P. and Glenn Courtney, and Ann P. and Danny J. Skeans of Dover, Del.; uncles, Kenneth L. Todd and family of Bishopville, Md. and Clyde G. Todd and family of Dallas, Texas; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Greene of Sacramento, Calif. There are many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends in California, Maryland, Texas, and Delaware who share wonderful memories of their time with Rick. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to share and celebrate Rick's life at 2 p.m. on Sat., Mar. 16, 2013 at Pippin Funeral Home at 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, Rick's family requests that contributions be made to the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company at P.O. Box 186, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com
