Frances W. Dukes

Frances W. Dukes, 84

SMYRNA - Frances W. Dukes, passed away on Jan. 29,2009. She was 84. Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Mearsville, Va., to Iola Ball White and Samuel P. White, she graduated from Bloxum High School, Va., in 1942. Following her marriage, she was a homemaker. Frances was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Smyrna; The Twentieth Century Club; Smyrna Homemakers Club and Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Hose Company. She along with her close friend Doris Botsch, were honored to be co-recipients of the Smyrna-Clayton Great Person Award for 2001, particularly for their years of volunteer work at the Community Food Pantry for the needy at Asbury Church. At Thanksgiving, 2007, she was honored by the Smyrna-Clayton Ministerium for 37 years of service to the Community Food Pantry. Until her illness, she had also volunteered at the Delaware Home and Hospital. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, W. Henry Dukes; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda S. and Charles P. Coates III, of Newark; son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Cynthia Dukes of Hanover, Pa.; and grandsons, Samuel C. Dukes of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Daniel M. Dukes of Hanover. Funeral services will be held at Faries Funeral Home, 29 South Main St., Smyrna, at 11 a.m. on Monday. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. Those wishing to make donations may donate to the Community Food Pantry in care of Smyrna-Clayton Ministerium, P.O. Box 330 Smyrna, DE 19977.
