Flossie Christina Scott, 82

DENTON, Md. - Flossie Christina Scott of Denton went home to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, in Caroline Nursing Home, Denton. She was 82.

Mrs. Scott was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Marydel, 11th child of the late Thomas K. and Margaret Johnson.

She attended school at Mount Zion, Ingleside and Castle Hall, and then, graduated from Lockerman High School, Denton.

She was a domestic housewife, enjoying cooking, baking, canning and raising her six children.

Mrs. Scott at an early age joined New Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Wilmington, Del. Returning to Maryland, she joined Ferrell's United Methodist Church, which later merged with Mount Zion. She was a Communion steward and honorary member of the Usher Board at Mount Zion. She had a smile and a kind word with everyone she met. She would always ask how the services were, how many were present, what the choir sang. If it was a special or Annual Day, there was always the question "Did you have enough food?" Although her illness prevented her from being active, she remained with the church until the end.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Scott, whom she had married June 19, 1947; a son, John Howard Scott; eight sisters; and a brother.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Scott Hucks of Wilmington; four sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Helen Scott of Dover, Del., Thomas Scott of Wilmington, Samuel Scott of Barclay, and Matthew and Jean Scott of Marydel; an additional daughter-in-law, Doris Scott of Dover; a sister, Elsie Teat of Capitol Healthcare Services, Dover; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a special nephew who was like a son, Randolph Cheers; a special niece who was like a daughter, Yvonne Johnson Stroman; many cousins, nephews and nieces; and her friends at Caroline Nursing Home.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.

Services will be noon Saturday in Calvary Baptist Church, Del. 8, Dover, where friends also may call two hours earlier.

Burial will be in Mount Zion Church Cemetery, Marydel.
