BOWERS BEACH - Florence E. Myers, went on to meet the Lord Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, while resting in her bed in Pinnacle Nursing Home, Smyrna. She was 98. Florence was born Feb. 6, 1910 in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Clarence Marshall and Bertha Morrissey Marshall. She was one of ten children. Florence married her late husband in 1927 and moved to Bowers Beach in 1948. She learned a strong work ethic by helping her father with the animals on their property and by helping her mother with the house and siblings. Florence did waitress from the age of 13 till 38. She also had worked at the Philadelphia Navy Ship Yard during World War II making life jackets. Florence was affectionately called Floss or Flossie by friends and family, and also Eskie by her brothers and sisters because of the Eskimo doll she loved as a child. She loved the Lord and truly enjoyed church. Florence loved being with her family and received great pleasure when around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always ready for travel or to go shopping. Music, movies and shows gave her great delight, as well as reading biographies of famous people. So many people loved her and she will be missed greatly. She is survived by her three children, John F. Myers Jr. and his wife Nell, of Hopkinsville, Ky., Dolores Miller, of Bowers Beach, and Gilbert R. Myers Sr. and his wife Cheryl, of Bowers Beach; 12 grandchildren, Sharon LaPeer, John III and Arthur Myers, Denise Phelps and Keith Myers, Richard and Stephen Miller, and Deborah Forney–Feeney, G.R., Robbie, Golden, and Rocky Myers; 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and five great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. A small graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Harrington Ward, 110 S. Lucky Estates Drive (Rt. 14 Milford-Harrington Hwy.), Harrington. Flowers are appreciated but also donations are greatly valued to Alzheimer's Association of Delaware, 2306 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805. Local arrangements by Torbert Funeral Chapels, Dover.
