Florence Dorothy Mench

Florence Dorothy Mench, 86

ROCK HALL, Md. - Florence Dorothy Mench, of Rock Hall, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, in her home. She was 86. Mrs. Mench was born on Dec. 12, 1921, daughter of the late Charles R. and Julia W. Joiner Urie. A lifetime resident of Rock Hall where she was a foster parent for the Kent County Dept. of Social Services during the 1960's, 70's and 80's, raising over 15 children. She had worked for the cannery and Vita Foods. Mrs. Mench was a member of the Rock Hall 7th Day Adventist Church and their prayer group. She was also a member of AARP and volunteered for Upper Shore Mental Health. Mrs. Mench is preceded in death by her son, L. Sean Mench in 2007; two brothers, Melvin and Albert Urie; and three infant siblings. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Wm. 'Ben' Mench; a daughter, Bootsie Bell of South Riding, Va.; a son, Donnie Mench of Chestertown; her twin brother, Donald Urie of Barclay; a granddaughter, Stephanie Balderrama; two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Charlie Balderrama, and two foster children, who she raised, R.J. and Bobby Prevette. Funeral service will be held on Monday at noon in Rock Hall 7th Day Adventist Church, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall. Memorials may be offered to Rock Hall V.F.C. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD 21661. Arrangements by Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
