Evelyn Wheat, 78

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Evelyn Wheat, of Chestertown, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. She was 78.

Mrs. Wheat was born on March 8, 1930, in St. Clair, Mich., daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Essen Trolley.

She had lived in Sudlersville for 46 years before returning to Kent County several years ago.

Mrs. Wheat retired from Motor Vehicle Administration in Chesapeake City as a customer service agent after 15 years of service.

She also worked part time as a switchboard operator for Chester River Hospital.

Mrs. Wheat loved being with her family, and various activities including playing cards, sports and her cat, Tiger Tom.

She was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Detroit Lions.

Mrs. Wheat was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas A. Wheat Sr. in June 2007; a sister, Lorna Beckler; and a great-grandson, Dalton Lee Davis.

Mrs. Wheat is survived by three children, Barbara George and her husband Ted of Denton, Ginger Wheat of Greenwood, Del., and Thomas A. 'Tay" Wheat Jr. and his companion Lynn Conner of Smyrna, Del.; a sister, Betty Hodge of Tybee Island, Ga.; six grandchildren, Robert L. Frazier Jr., Michael Davis Sr., Heidi Davis, Thomas A. Wheat III, Sgt. 1st Class Travis Wheat, and Lauren Weldon; eight great-grandchildren, Robert Frazier III, Emma Wheat, Olivia Wheat, David Thomas Wheat, Michael Davis Jr., William Davis, Matthew Davis, and Chloe Chance.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call two hours prior.

Burial will be held privately.

Memorials may be offered to the Kennedyville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 32, Kennedyville, MD 21645; or the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
