LAUREL - Evelyn Griffin Moore of Laurel, lovingly known as "Buttercup", passed from this life on Sunday, July 8, 2007, after a long illness, while surrounded by family. She was 88.
She was the daughter of the late George and Minerva Griffin.
Evelyn was a native of Newark, Md., but made her home in Laurel for 60 years with her best friend and husband, Thomas C. Moore.
Evelyn was a member of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Co."s Ladies Auxiliary for several decades.
She was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and Centenary United Methodist Church for many years as well.
Many will remember Evelyn as a cashier/cafeteria employee at Laurel Junior/Senior High School between 1958 and 1971.
Even more will remember her as an avid bingo player at many of our local fire halls.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Tom; their two children, Dale A. Evans and wife, Jenny of Salisbury, Md., and Lettie A. Perry and husband, John of Seaford; grandchildren, Brian Evans and wife, Glenda, Michael Evans and Heather Layton; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday in the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. John Van Tine will officiate.
Internment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Co."s Ladies Auxiliary, 205 W. 10th St., Laurel, DE 19956; or Centenary UM Church, 200 W. Market St., Laurel, DE 19956.
