Eugene A. Vanderhoof

Vanderhoof, 73 WYOMING - Eugene A. Vanderhoof passed away suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015 at home. Gene was born on Nov. 14, 1941 and raised in Dover, N.J. by the late Charles W. Vanderhoof and Edith E. Jaleen Vanderhoof. He graduated from Dover High School and joined the United States Navy immediately following graduation. From 1960 - 1966, he served in the Navy as a gunner on the U.S.S. Wood County (LST 1178) during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a gifted, self-trained musician with a passion for singing and playing the guitar and organ. His professional musical career resulted in a signing with Mercury label and sold 100,000 copies of his first single. Thereafter, he worked as a chemical reactor operator for 30 years for BASF Corporation. He was Roman Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Gene loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his sons, Eugene Vanderhoof, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; Steve Vanderhoof and his wife Rayan of Coto De Caza, Calif.; daughters, Deanna Dietl and her husband Eric of Washington, N.J.; Alyssa Ackerman and her husband Terry of Easton, Pa.; brother, Charles W. Vanderhoof, Jr. of Wyoming, Del.; sister, Lorraine Allaband of Dover, Del.; Irene Adkins and her husband William of Frederica, Del.; grandchildren, Connor, Austin, Ryan, Jenna, Lauren and Alexa; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie. A Catholic Mass will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover. Friends may call beginning at 12 p.m. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
