Ethel Hall Hopkins

DOVER - Ethel Hall Hopkins, of Dover, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Kent General Hospital. She was 95. Mrs. Hopkins was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Greenbackville, Va., to the late Edgar Thomas Hall and Alice Mary Coffin Hall. She lived most of her life in Harrington until the early 1970's and then moved to Dover to be closer to family. She graduated Harrington High School in 1935 and worked at a Chevrolet auto dealership for 15 years in Harrington and later at Matthews Motors in Dover as a bookkeeper. Mrs. Hopkins enjoyed church, family gatherings, and writing poetry. She also enjoyed reading and playing piano for her friends at Heritage at Dover. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Wesley Branches and church circle #4. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Louis Hopkins, in 1987; her brother, Maurice Hall; her son, J. Lynn Hopkins; and her daughter, Lois Marker. She is survived by her son-in-law, Curtis Marker of Dover; daughter-in-law, Ann Bowden and her husband Claude of Cleveland, Tenn.; grandchildren, Craig Marker and his wife Nancy of Townsend, Kevin Marker and his wife Kelly of Asburn, Va., Amy Cline and her husband Jon of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jason Hopkins and his wife Traci of Dalton, Ga., and Jody Garcia and her husband Julio of Middletown; and nine great-grandchildren, Cody and Casey Marker, Christian Marker, Drew, Alyssa, Jansen, and Addison Cline, and Gabrielle and Tyler Garcia. Funeral services will be noon, Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
