SMYRNA - Elizabeth D. McCain, of Smyrna, passed away at Bayhealth Hospital in Dover, on August 21, 2016. She was 78 years old. She was born near Smyrna on January 5, 1938, the daughter of the late George W. and Minnie E. Reed. In her early years Elizabeth was a newspaper carrier for "The Evening Journal". She later became a school bus driver and then on to a school bus contractor. She served in this capacity for over 40 years between the Smyrna and Appoquinimink school districts. The bus business was a passion of hers and she ran the business until a recent illness. She fondly remembered carrying "generations" of students. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio to visit family. In later years they enjoyed many trips in their motorhome. She loved spending time at her beach house and most of all, spending time with her three dogs, Jesse, Trixie and Fluff. She will always be remembered for her love of flowers and the joys of spring planting. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald C. McCain; and three brothers, Clarence, George and John Reed. She is survived by one daughter, Karen (Terry) of Camden; four sons, James (Bev), of Smyrna, Richard (Carol), of Milford, Mark (Lisa), of Smyrna, and Michael (Becky), of Clayton; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Harold I. Reed; a special caregiver, Samantha; and a host of drivers that have been her friends for many years. A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday, August 26, 2016, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
