Elizabeth B. 'Liz' Bennett, 77
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Elizabeth B. "Liz" Bennett, of Chestertown, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, in the Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 77.
Born Sept. 10, 1930, in Tyler, Texas, she was the daughter of the late William J. Beaver and Lillie Mae Clark.
Liz graduated from Chestertown High School in 1947 and subsequently attended Goldey-Beacom College where she met and married her husband.
In 1949, they lived in Chestertown where she was employed by the Department of Social Services in Centreville, and then by Kunkles Auto Parts in Chestertown.
Liz and her husband moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she was employed as a secretary at Ohio State University.
She was subsequently employed at the Batelle Memorial Insitute as an analyst of Soviet capabilities during the "Cold War."
In 1955, Liz moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where she was employed by the Sandia Corp.
She also lived for a short time in 1959 in Seattle before moving to Bethesda in 1960 where her role was that of a mother and home manager.
In 1980, Liz moved to Searborough, N.Y., before returning to Chestertown in 1990.
Liz enjoyed playing badminton, golf and bridge.
She enjoyed many peaceful moments, tending to her roses and gazing at the Chester River.
Liz also enjoyed her family and friends who were particularly grateful for her loving heart and caring support in their time of need.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, Bertha Smith, Frances Quimby, Marguerite Beaver, Frank Beaver, Fred Beaver and William Beaver.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. William F. Bennett; her beloved daughter, Karen Elizabeth Bennett; and by many nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Shelley Smith and her husband Richard of Centreville.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial donations to Kent Center, Inc, 215 Scheeler Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
