Edwin Lester Porter

DOVER - Edwin Lester Porter passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 at Cadia Rehab, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Porter was born Nov. 25, 1949 in Cumberland, Md. to the late Lester E. Porter and Maretta Emerick Mayhew.
He had entered the United States Air Force after high school, which he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his stent in the AF, he worked for Pardee Oil Company and B/P Gas Station and then KSI in Milford before he reentered the Civil Service in 1984. Mr. Porter loved his job at Dover Air Force Base, where he worked as a sheet metal mechanic/structural maintenance, working cable and tubing mostly on the C-5 Galaxy and in later years the C-17's. His health forced him to retire in 2011 at which time he received a kidney transplant from his brother David. Upon retiring Mr. Porter became more active in the South Side Baptist Church. He also joined the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. Mr. Porter made new friends and enjoyed the companionship of the other seniors. He also spent more time with his grandson. They enjoyed each other's company and had many adventures together.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Samon Eksiri Porter, April 2010.
He leaves behind son, Brian J. Porter and wife Michelle of Cheswold; daughter, Mary Ellen Stare and husband Carl and grandson, Adam A. Stare all of Dover; sister, Marguerite Kastner and husband Bruce of Scottdale, PA; brother, David Porter and wife Kathy, of Scottdale, PA; half-sister, Brenda and husband Tom Fulton; half-brother's, Danny Porter and wife Suzanne, Lester Porter and wife Paula all of LaVale, Md, Mark Porter and wife Tricia of Vero Beach, FL; half-sister's, Sue Lindsey and husband Wes of LaVale, MD, and Joan Lawrence and husband Todd of McCoole, MD and extended family.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be held at Sharon Hills Memorial Park.
