Edith E. Vanderhoof, 92

DOVER - Edith E. Vanderhoof, of Dover, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at home. She was 92. Mrs. Vanderhoof was born April 13, 1917, in Dover, N.J., to the late Frank Jaleen and Myrtle McConnell Jaleen. She had worked as a waitress for the "Goody Shop" in Dover, N.J., and had also worked for Precision Machine as a metal worker. Mrs. Vanderhoof worked for Picattinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J., where she loaded black powder in shells for 17 years. Mrs. Vanderhoof had worked for McGregor clothing factory part time for many years. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Vanderhoof in 1997. Mrs. Vanderhoof is survived by her two sons, Charles, and Eugene Vanderhoof, both of Camden, Del.; her two daughters, Lorraine Allaband of Dover, Del., and Irene Adkins of Frederica; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday Nov. 4, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
