Edith Buckley Wilde, 96

GREENWOOD - Edith Buckley Wilde, of Greenwood, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, in the Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She was 96.

Mrs. Wilde was born Nov. 4, 1911, to Roseanna and William Spencer Buckley in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia.

She graduated from Roxborough High School and after the death of her parents she moved to Columbus, Ohio, to live with her sister, Mary Wileman and her family.

Mrs. Wilde met and in 1947 married Robert Colton, a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran.

They had one son, Robert.

She was widowed in 1964 and worked for the Ohio Masonic Grand Lodge in Worthington.

In June 1973 she married Benton B. Wilde, a widower, whom she'd known from her hometown.

They lived in the Wilmington area for most of their 27 years together.

Mrs. Wilde was a volunteer beginning in 1940s as a Red Cross nurse aide and then served Meals on Wheels for over 25 years.

She and her husband volunteered at the Hanover Church Food Closet and as a camp aide at Sherando Lake in Virginia.

Mrs. Wilde enjoyed extensive travel in the United States as well as travel abroad to the land of her ancestors, England. She also visited a niece in Denmark.

Her husband, Benton, died Sept. 10, 2000.

She is survived by her son, Robert Colton of Shanghai, China; nieces, Lorelie Cade, Ann Williams and spouse, Dick, and Deborah Battaglia and spouse Anthony and their children Lauren and Jared; her nephew, George Wileman and his family; her special grandchildren, Kim Miller and family, Scott Wilde and family, Stacey Wilde and family; and numerous other relatives and well loved friends.

She had a wonderful life and felt richly blessed. A gift to a favorite charity in her memory would be her wish.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Fleischauer Funeral Home, West Market Street, Greenwood.
