Dorothy Mae Cephus, 74
GREENSBORO, Md. - Dorothy Mae Cephus of Greensboro died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, in Caroline Nursing Home; Denton. She was 74.
Mrs. Cephus was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Theodore Gibbs and Pauline Griffin Horsey.
She was a homemaker and a teacher's aide for Ridgely Elementary School for many years.
Before entering the nursing home, she lived in the Maple Village Apartment community of Greensboro. While living there, she took care of her neighbors as if they were family. She was a well-loved, practical woman, seeing to everyone else's needs before her own. She loved flowers and gardening.
Mrs. Cephus was a member of the Replanted Zion United Methodist Church, Ridgely, and the Caroline County Senior Center, Denton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Cephus, in 1961; two sons, Billy Ringgold and Maurice "Reese" Cephus; two daughters-in-law, Veronica Cephus and Mildred Cephus; and an uncle, Thomas Griffin.
She is survived by seven sons, William Cephus Jr. of Florida, James Gibbs of Cambridge, Stan Cephus of Baltimore, Charles Cephus, and his wife, Ruth, of Cambridge, Percy Cephus, and his wife, Judy, of North Carolina, Anthony Cephas, and his wife, Karen, of Queen Anne and Wendell Cephus of Washington.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro.
Services will be noon Saturday in St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 5th and Franklin streets, Denton, where friends also may call one hour earlier.
