Dorothy L. Lusher King, 93

EASTON, Md. - Dorothy L. Lusher King, of Easton, formerly of Denton, died Monday, April 6, 2009, in William Hill Manor in Easton. She was 93. Born in Rockland, Pa., on Dec. 14, 1915, Mrs. King was the daughter of the late Willis G. and Kathryn Sollinger Lusher. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown, Pa., and had been active in the Live Wires Women's Association of the former Grace Methodist Church in Denton. She had lived in Denton for 47 years prior to moving to Easton in 2000. Prior to coming to Maryland in 1953, she had managed the family home built in 1864 and helped maintain the family farm in Cooperstown, Pa. She was always busy canning, preserving, sewing, baking and gardening. After arriving in Maryland, she had a varied career, working in the sewing factory and Rue' Frozen Foods in Denton. Later she worked in Atkinson's Department Store and then Wright's Fabrics, both in Easton until her retirement in the early 1980s. Since retiring, she has enjoyed reading and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. On Aug. 14, 1933, she married J. Byers King, who died Jan. 29, 1998. They enjoyed traveling by car beginning with their honeymoon to the Chicago's World Fair. Every June they returned to the family home in Cooperstown, Pa., for the summers, returning the end of August. In later years they made trips to Florida, Texas, and a cross-country trip to California visiting the Grand Canyon, Black Mountains of North Dakota and relatives in the mid-west. Mrs. King is survived by six children, Theda K. Henry of Denton, Charles W. King of Denton, Texas, Barbara K. Eaton, Mary K. Schreiber and Virginia L. Kilmon of Easton, and Ruth Anne Rader of Camden, Del.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her sister, Ruth L. Bell passed away in 1968. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second St., Denton, where friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight. Interment will be in Denton Cemetery, Denton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
