Donya June Smith

SEAFORD - Donya June Smith passed away, after a short but courageous battle with cancer on Sept. 8, 2013 surrounded by her loving family and best friend at her home in Seaford. Donya was born in Bridgeville on Nov. 16, 1954, daughter of Jerry L. Smith of Seaford and the late June Dunham Smith. She graduated from Seaford High School in 1972 and from Wor-Wic Community College, Salisbury, Md. in 1996 with honors, with a degree in nursing. She worked for several years at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. and Wicomico County Nursing Home in Salisbury, Md. Additionally for many years, she worked at the Wicomico County Detention Center, Salisbury, and Eastern Correctional Institute, Princess Anne, Md. Donya had so much love in her heart for her family and several close friends which had been a part of her life for many, many years. Donya was a caretaker to many in her lifetime, that is why Nursing was a perfect career choice for her. She was blessed with a caring and compassionate nature and was always ready to help someone. She was a member of Gateway Fellowship Church, Cannon's Crossing. Donya was preceded in death by her mother, June Dunham Smith of Seaford; maternal grandparents, James and Rhea Dunham of Georgetown; and paternal grandparents, Robert and Anita Smith of Bridgeville. In addition to her father, Donya is survived by four children, whom she loved beyond imagination, Jason Reed (Vanessa) of N.Y., Jana Bailey (Marcus) of Delmar, Md., Jarah Hall (Tim) of Delmar, Del. and Joshua Reed (Kim) of Seaford; seven (soon to be eight) grandchildren; a brother, J. Keith Smith (Helene), Harleysville, Pa.; and sister, Marla S. Carter (Clay), Viola. Donya was an Aunt to two nephews and three nieces and one great niece. Family and friends are invited to partake in the service at Gateway Fellowship Church, Cannon's Crossing on Sat., Sept. 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. to celebrate Donya's life. Burial will be private. The family welcomes flowers and encourages donations to the Delaware Hospice Inc. 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Delaware Hospice has provided incredible support, caring beyond measure and help like none other, to Donya's family during this short illness. Arrangements by the Cranston Funeral Home, Seaford, DE.
