HARRINGTON - Donald W. Derrickson (DD), passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, following a short illness. He was born on Jan. 15, 1929, in Harrington, the son of the late Frank Hudson Derrickson and Pearl Elizabeth Taylor Derrickson. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Harrington High School. Mr. Derrickson was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1956, and retired after a 32 year career working for the E. I. DuPont Company Inc. in Seaford. Donald was the long time Treasurer and Executive Vice President for the Harrington Alumni Association, where he worked tirelessly for the organization. An active member of the Democratic Party, he served many years as the Committeeman for the 30th District. In 2002, he was appointed to the Board of Delaware Health Resources by Gov. Ruth Ann Minner. One of his interests was looking after the daily operations at the Harrington Historical Society. He was a past member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington, the Harrington Heritage Days and Harrington Recreation Committee. Mr. Derrickson loved spending time helping manage the Avenue Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach when the owners were away. Donald loved helping others and spent many hours coordinating help for those who needed it throughout the community. Mr. Derrickson could be found having lunch with his many friends in local restaurants, while planning his next community project. He will be sorely missed by all who were fortunate to know him. DD is survived by two sisters, Anna Lee Derrickson, of Harrington, and Lois McHugh, of Glenside, Pa. DD was the beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews across the country.
