Donald Stanley Liddicoat, 86
FELTON - Donald Stanley Liddicoat of Felton, formerly of Federalsburg, Md., passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, in his home. He was 86.
Mr. Liddicoat was born May 16, 1921, in Reading, Pa., son of the late Stanley Leslie Liddicoat and Erma Becker Liddicoat.
He was a graduate of Reading High School, and received a bachelor of science in 1948 from Albright College, Reading.
Mr. Liddicoat served his country in the U.S. Army.
He was color coordinator for the former American Optical Corp., Frederick, Md., retiring in 1981 after 23 years of service. He also had been employed by Maryland Plastics.
Mr. Liddicoat's passion for singing began at age 11, and he sang in and directed many choirs and choral groups in Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Delaware, including singing at one of the dedications of the Temple of the Latter-day Saints in Washington, D.C. He was a charter member of the Mormon Choir of Washington, D.C., sang with the Seaford Symphonic Choir and Queen Anne's Chorale group, directed the Frederick Ward Choir in western Maryland for many years, and was the director of the Federalsburg Senior Serenaders since 1987. He won the "Maryland You Are Beautiful" essay contest, and was awarded Caroline County's "Most Beautiful Person" award that was presented by then-Gov. William Donald Schaffer. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Easton/Cambridge, was a member of the American Legion in Seaford, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Frederick Ward, and had served as past branch president of Seaford Latter-day Saints, and at the time of his death was a member of the Dover Ward.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Liddicoat and Curtis Liddicoat.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia Messenger Liddicoat; a son, Michael D. Liddicoat of Felton; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Framptom Funeral Home P.A., Federalsburg, where friends may call one hour earlier. Bishop Ronald Jess will officiate.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Federalsburg.
