Lt. Col. Donald L. Phillips (Retired), 79

DOVER - Lt. Col. Donald L. Phillips (retired), died Thursday, April 23, 2009, in Capitol Nursing Home. He was 79. Mr. Phillips was born August 28, 1929 in Baltimore, Md., to the late Carlton Phillips and Mary Hearn Phillips. He received his Masters Electrical Engineering Degree from U.S. Air Force Air University Institute of Technology. He retired after 23 years from the United States Air Force in 1974. After retiring in Delaware, he taught computer science at Del Tech, Terry Campus. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Navigator Association. He enjoyed computers, reading, kayaking, sailing, collecting lighthouses, and ducks. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 24 years, Mildred Dawes Phillips of Dover; sons, Brooks L. Phillips of Felton, and Mark L. Achenbach and his wife Robin of Dover; daughters, Kathleen S. Glascock and her husband Robert O. of Ellicott City, Md., Barbara L. Menden and her husband Gary Jr. of Wyoming, and Jessica B. Snow and her husband Bruce E. of Smyrna; brother, Robert Phillips of Eastville, Va.; grandchildren, Morgan E., C. Todd and Connor Menden, Megan E. and Caitlyn P. Glascock, Brett L. and Brady Phillips, Jonathan E. and Benjamin A. Snow, and Dakota P. Achenbach. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 425 N. Dupont Hwy., Dover. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Interment will be in the East New Market Cemetery, East Market, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Parkinson Research Foundation: parkinsonresearchfoundation.org Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
