Della Ella (McCabe) Hitchens, 70
DAGSBORO - Della Ella (McCabe) Hitchens of Dagsboro passed on to be with her Lord Friday, June 22, 2007, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 70.
Della was born in Millsboro, daughter of the late John and Eva (Hudson) McCabe.
She was a 1955 graduate of Millsboro High School. She was very athletic and involved in many sporting activities, where she was usually the team captain.
Della was a lifelong member of the Hickory Hill Church in Millsboro. Her strong faith kept her involved in all offices and mission work in the church and community. She was currently chairman of trustees at her church.
She was a loving mother, housewife and farm wife.
Della enjoyed quilting, reading, horseback riding, dining out and poultry farming and travel.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark W. Hitchens, in 1998; and two brothers, John Edward McCabe and Preston "Zeke" McCabe.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William "Bill" Hitchens; her children, Donna M.H. Jones and her husband Richard, Billie L.H. Lawson and her husband Raymond, and Bonnie L.H. Hummer and her husband James III; a former daughter-in-law, Denise A. Hitchens Calhoun; a sister, Patsy McCabe Moore and her husband Ronald; a brother, Richard "Ricky" McCabe and his wife Patricia "Peggy"; her grandchildren, Kristina R. Messick and her husband G.G. Messick II, Jessica E. Jones, Joanne M. Lawson-Gore and her husband Justin, Nicole A. Lawson, Neil L. Lawson, April D. Lathbury and her husband Mark, and Kasey J. Hummer; and her great-grandchildren, Caleb L. Lawson, Jacob M. Lawson and Hayley E. Lawson.
A funeral service will be noon Tuesday at the Hickory Hill United Methodist Church on Mollyfield Road in Millsboro, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hickory Hill United Methodist Church, c/o Roy Rogers, 28209 Walt Carmean Lane, Millsboro, DE 19963; or Delaware Hospice of Sussex, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
