Deborah Susan (Robinson) Gingerich, 50

SMYRNA - Deborah Susan (Robinson) Gingerich of Smyrna died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in her sister's home after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer. She was 50.

Debbie was born Dec. 14, 1956, in Fort Worth, Ky., while her father, Edwin C. Robinson, was serving in the U.S. Army.

She was the first child of Ed Robinson and Bonnie Gay (Scott) Robinson.

Debbie was preceded in death by her mother on Oct. 4, 1995, who also lost a battle to cancer.

Her father and his wife, Martha, currently reside in Maine.

Debbie graduated from Smyrna High School in 1975 and continued on to earn a license in practical nursing from Delaware Technical & Community College.

She dedicated her entire life to caring for others.

Debbie's nursing career spanned 30 years, caring for geriatric patients in nursing homes, and also worked for about seven years at the Delaware Correctional Center, Smyrna.

While working at DCC, she was under the watchful eye of her father, Capt. Ed Robinson, who retired from the Delaware prison system eight years ago.

Debbie truly cared for the well being of others, whether they were Alzheimer's patients or inmates at DCC.

Her most recent employment was with Connections-Community Support Programs, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation treatment center in New Castle.

Debbie is survived by her two children; a brother, Ed Robinson; and a sister, Brenda Robinson Foulk.

Her daughter, Christa Gay Willey Rowlands, along with husband Scott Rowlands, reside in Smyrna with their five children, Kara, 15, Samantha, 13, Scott, 11, and the twins, Matthew and Owen, age 10.

Debbie was an active and loving grandmother and will be missed greatly by all of her grandchildren.

She was extremely proud of Christa's parenting efforts and fully supported Christa's plans to go to college to become a teacher.

Debbie's son, Daniel David Willey Jr. currently resides in Missouri and is a restaurateur. She was very proud of his entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to strike out on his own.

Debbie and her brother, Eddie, shared a passion for fishing and spent many Sunday afternoons kicking back with fishing poles in their hands.

Ed's daughter, Alison "Ali Bubba" Robinson was very special to Debbie. They shared a very close relationship and Ali's life will be forever changed by the loss of her Aunt Debbie. Ali recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named Jaxen and Aunt Debbie had already become a special part of his life.

Debbie and her sister, Brenda, shared a particularly close relationship, especially since the loss of their mother. Although Debbie and Brenda were nearly opposite in many ways, they learned to agree to disagree and accept each other for who they were. Their love for each other was evident to everyone around them.

Debbie enjoyed Brenda's husband Grant's specially made iced tea immensely and would feel free to drink the last in the pitcher and then annoy him to make it. She enjoyed his iced tea right up until her death. They also shared a love for the Philadelphia Eagles and celebrated and commiserated in their team's trials and tribulations.

Brenda and Grant have two children, Kate Foulk and Ryan Foulk.

It was a running joke in the family that Kate was actually Debbie's daughter because she is dark haired, left-handed and acts so much like her aunt. Aunt Debbie had a knack for giving Kate the perfect gifts on special occasions.

Aunt Debbie trusted her special nephew, Ryan, to take care of her special dog, Gracie. Ryan loved his Aunt Debbie and will miss her very much.

A very important part of Debbie's life was her faithful companion, Gracie. Gracie is a 4-year old Yorkie Poo who was lying at Debbie's side when she died. Gracie wil1 reside with Debbie's sister, Brenda, who has Gracie's litter mate, Georgie Girl.

Debbie's family will be eternally grateful to Compassionate Care Hospice for their assistance in bringing Debbie home to pass on in peace.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Faries Funeral Home, Smyrna. Friends and family are invited to share their memories and participate in the service.

Condolences may be sent to the funeral home via e-mail at Thor19977@aol.com.
