CUDJOE KEY, Fla. - David M. Robinson, Jr., 81, of Cudjoe Key, and formerly of Wilmington, Del., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born in Wilmington and was the son of the late David M. Sr. and Lillian (Worrall) Robinson. He left high school in 1946 to serve in the U.S. Navy, after which, he returned to school and attended the University of Delaware where he received his B.S. in electrical engineering. He then married Doris Carter, and, that same year, returned to the University of Delaware where he became the first student to receive a PhD in electrical engineering. Dave and Dorie then moved to Cherry Hill, N.J., to take a position with Bell Labs. He also worked as a consultant for Morton Thiokol before returning to the University of Delaware as a professor in the College of Engineering. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 1996 and continued an affectionate connection with the UD staff members and former students. Dave was also a huge fan of the Blue Hens, he and his wife attended nearly every home game for over 30 years. After his retirement, Dave divided his time between Bethany Beach, Del., and Cudjoe Key. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time on his boat off the Delaware coast, but enjoyed fishing and diving in the Keys even more. He was extremely proud of becoming a certified Scuba diver at the age of 65. Most recently, Dave enjoyed spending his time with his partner, Sharon Clarke and his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Doris (Carter) Robinson in 1995; and his brother, Donald B. Robinson. He is survived by his son, Mark D. Robinson and his wife Renee of Bethany Beach; his partner, Sharon Clarke of Sayre, Pa.; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jake Robinson; Sharon's daughter, Jennifer Wakely and her husband Drew and their children, Destiny, Jack and Olivia; and Sharon's son, Andrew Clarke. Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, Del. There will also be a memorial service at noon on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Hastings Funeral Home, 19 South Main Street, Selbyville, DE 19975. Condolences may be sent by visiting
