Chester 'Chet' Harrison, 80 ELLENDALE - Chester "Chet" Harrison, of Ellendale and Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at home with his wife by his side. He was 80. Born September 22, 1929, in Ohio, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. A love for mechanics and cars, led him to the Lincoln Speedway, where he was the flagman for many races. He was a proud lifetime member of the Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company. Chet enjoyed fishing and collecting antique lures and anything associated with the sport, a love he shared with his nephew, Richard Dickerson. He loved to travel with his wife, any distance, to scour auctions and flea markets to find things to add to his collection, or anything he found interesting or amusing. After 33 years working at the LD Caulk Company in Milford, he retired as supervisor of the alloy department. A few years later, he began spending summers at Rehoboth Beach, helping his daughter and son-in-law at Ryan's, where he became so involved in every aspect of the business, he was made an honorary partner. He was affectionately known as "Pop", and his sense of humor and enthusiasm for life was contagious. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Jean Harrison; his brother, Stanley Harrison; three daughters and a son, Deborah Steele and husband, Steve, Chuck Harrison and wife, Debra, Donna Russell and husband, Leonard, and Denise Kirn and husband, Stan; six granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. With respect for Chet's wish, there was no service. Memorial contributions or remembrances can be made to Delaware Hospice or Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company. Letters of condolences can be sent to
