Charles Earle Fooks, 67

LA PUENTE, Calif. - Charles Earle Fooks departed this life at his home in LaPuente on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008. He was 67.

The son of the late James Henry Fooks Sr. and Charlotte Sodonia (Green) Fooks, he was born April 20, 1940, in Laurel, Del.

Charles received his formal education at Paul Lawrence Dunbar School, Laurel, and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School (presently Delaware Technical & Community College) in Georgetown, Del.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Charles attended UCLA and Glendale universities in California.

He and Barbara (Sarden) were joined in Holy Matrimony on March 18, 1970. This union was blessed with one son, Dameron Jennings Fooks, and one daughter, Ashle Shonne Fooks, both of California.

Charles was employed by NASA for several years. He did all the fine wiring on the Apollo spacecraft and had dinner with Neil Armstrong and the crew the night before take off.

After graduating law school, Charles served 31 years as a court clerk for Los Angeles County until retiring in 2003.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clifford, Ernest, Howard and Raymond Fooks; and two sisters, Ernestine and Teresa Fooks Carter.

Charles leaves to treasure his memory his wife, Barbara; one son, Dameron and his wife Diane; one daughter, Ashle and her husband Jefferson Enriquez; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, all of California; his mother, Charlotte Sodonia Green Fooks of Delmar, Del.; seven brothers, James Jr., Donald Sr. and Joe Fooks and his wife Evelyn, all of Delmar, Roland and his wife Eleanor of Greenwood, Del., Ralph and his wife Evelyn of Williamstown, N.J., and Marvin and Otis and his wife Karen, all of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Mary Johnson Beckett and her husband James and Darlene Fooks, all of Delmar, and Bertha G. Bryant of Georgetown; one sister-in-law, Audrey Fooks of Camden, N.J.; one uncle, Albert Green of Salisbury, Md.; two aunts, Florence and her husband Will Trailor of Seaford, Del., and Ethel Fooks of Laurel; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Cremation and burial at sea is being handled by the Natilus Neptune Society of California.
