CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Charles Blackiston, of Chestertown, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. He was 84.

Mr. Blackiston was born April 8, 1923, in Pondtown, son of the late Daniel and Beatrice (Harbinson) Blackiston.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, where he served with the 559th Field Artillery in the European Theatre.

For 32 years he worked as a mechanic for Russell Motors, Don Kelley Chevrolet and Burton Chevrolet, and for 15 years worked for Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital in housekeeping, retiring in 1997.

Mr. Blackiston had lived in Kennedyville before moving to Duck Neck in 1983.

He was preceded by his wife of 46 years, Sarah Hurtt Blackiston, in 2007; and a brother, George "Buss" Blackiston.

He is survived by a son, Charles "Duke" Blackiston of Chestertown; a daughter, Ann Marie Conner and her husband Gene of W.Va.; stepson, George "Billy" McMullen and his wife Dolores of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; stepdaughter, Joyce Lindauer and her husband John of Crumpton; two brothers, James Blackiston and his wife Bessie of Chestertown and Ralph Blackiston of Chestertown; two sisters, Catherine Otley Blackiston of Chestertown and Cecilia Farrow of North East; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., where funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday.

Burial in Crumpton Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to Chester River Hospital, 100 Brown Street, Chestertown, MD 21620.
