Celestine Marshall, 52

WILMINGTON - Celestine Marshall of Wilmington died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, in her home. She was 52.

Mrs. Marshall was born, reared and educated in Chester, Pa., daughter of the late Walter Sr. and Mozelle Cox.

She was born into a large family with southern roots and old-fashioned values.

Until Mrs. Marshall was sidelined by illness, she was an active person.

She worked for more than a decade at one of Delaware's credit card processing banks.

She developed a reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen, frequently whipping up a feast for friends, family or the sick and shut-in.

Mrs. Marshall also enjoyed the many facets of spiritual activity and Christian association that kept her joyful, encouraged and positive as her health deteriorated.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Cox and William Cox; and a sister, Mary Cox-Neal.

She is survived by her loving husband, Charles H. Marshall; her only child, Charles H. "Chip" Marshall Jr.; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bennie and Catherine Cox of Hopkins, S.C., and Fred and Alvirta Cox, Walter Cox Jr. and Lewis Cox, all of Chester; six sisters, Elizabeth Cox, Nancy Thomas, Wanita Cox and Janetta Cox, all of Chester, and Alease Brown and Louise Lodge, both of Waynesboro, Ga.; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly and affectionately called her "Aunt Weegie."

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour.
