Carolyn Sue Kline, 69

SOUTH BOWERS - Carolyn Sue Kline, of South Bowers, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 69. Born in New Martinsville, W. Va., on May 9, 1939, Sue was the daughter of the late Katherine Pauline Postlethwait, of Pine Grove, W. Va., and Henry Garner Kirkland of Maude, W. Va., the sister of the late Robert Kirkland, and the step-daughter of the late James T. Seybert of Canton, Ohio. She graduated in 1957, from Newark High School and continued her education by earning a bachelor of elementary education degree in 1973, and a master of special education degree in 1977, from the University of Delaware. The State of Delaware employed her as a teacher of special education students, and she advanced to being the administrator of a number of programs as a Child Find Specialist. While with the Colonial School District, Sue worked diligently to initiate a collaborative program with New Castle County Head Start to provide services to preschool students with special needs, and also to develop the Jump Start Program. In addition, she worked closely with the First State School, an educational program for chronically ill children, while it was housed at Christiana Hospital. She was active on the Foster Care Review Board and also participated on the Sequential Transition to Education in Public School (STEPS) Committee. She never viewed problems as such, but rather as challenges and an opportunity to implement her creative problem-solving strategies. She retired in 1997, after 30 years of exemplary service to her students and the community. Sue was fun-loving, kind-hearted, generous, compassionate and brave. She devoted much of her life to her family and to either enhancing or saving the lives of many children and animals. She was very creative, enthusiastically sketching, drawing, painting and writing poetry. Some of her hobbies included gardening, sewing, bird watching and stargazing. When healthier, she could often be seen strolling along the Rehoboth boardwalk with her husband "Fuzzy," or enjoying roasting hot dogs over a campfire with her family under the stars. She truly enjoyed the simple things that life has to offer, never wanting more than love and the happiness of those she loved. She is survived by her husband, Alfred "Fuzzy" Izzarone; her son, J. Scott Kline and wife Kathleen, of Milford; her son Ronald Neil Kline Jr. and wife Patricia of Seattle, Wash.; her sister, Doris Robbins and husband Bill of Rockford, Mich.; one niece, Coreen Beckett and husband David of Belmont, Mich.; one nephew, David Robbins and wife Natasha of Howell, Mich.; one grandnephew, Colin Beckett; and one grandniece, Makenna Beckett. She also leaves behind two step-children, Faith LaCross and husband Terry of Eugene, Ore., and David Melson of East New Market, Md.; and two grandchildren, Kirah Knee of Eugene, Ore., and Duncan Melson. Numerous other family members include her cousins and good friends, Drexell and Patty Wood of New Martinsville, W.Va. She will be greatly missed by her family, her many friends, including Jamie, Jim and Jenny Walko, the community of South Bowers, faithful canine companion Thursday, and loving feline companions Spooky and Otis. A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, Sue requested that contributions be made to Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary of Sussex County, PO Box 430, Nassau, DE, 19969 or to Faithful Friends, 3 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE, 19804.
