GUMBORO - Calvin L. Hammond of Gumboro died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 68.
Mr. Hammond retired from Collins Saw Mill as a mechanic after 38 years of service.
He was a life member of the Gumboro Volunteer Fire Co., and was chief from 1972-84.
Mr. Hammond was a past member of the Delaware National Guard.
He was a former track champion and stock car driver, driving cars 31 and 20.
Mr. Hammond lived for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Lee (Parker) Hammond, in 1996; his parents, George Sr. and Edna (Fluharty) Hammond; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otis and Helen Parker; a granddaughter, Mindy Sue Daisey; and a brother, William Hammond.
He is survived by four daughters and four sons-in-law, Teresa and Bryan Tracy, Debbie and Brooks Tyre and Rita and Barry Chandler, all of Gumboro, and Beverly and Clay Roe of Millsboro; a son, Ricky Hammond, and his girlfriend, Angela Messick, both of Millsboro; three brothers, George Hammond Jr. of Newark, Richard Hammond of Laurel and Roger Hammond of Seaford; a sister, Mary (Hammond) Bull of Parsonsburg, Md.; six grandsons and three granddaughters-in-law, Bill and Sheri Darkow, Steven and Ashley Tyre, Brandon and Holly Hammond, Logan Roe, Joe Tracy and Phil Tracy; five granddaughters and three grandsons-in-law, Crystal and Matt Roe, Brittney Hammond and her fiance, Phillip Hastings, Katie Daisey, Dori and Eric Camper and Sheila and Don Clark; and four great-grandchildren, Jaxon Camper, Kaleb Roe, Kamryn Camper and Hannah Darkow.
Services will be noon Saturday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call three hours earlier.
Burial will be in Carey's Cemetery, Millsboro.
Fellowship will follow in Gumboro Fire Co.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Lung Association, 1021 Gilpin Ave., Suite 202, Wilmington, DE 19806-3280; or the Gumboro Fire Co., 37030 Millsboro Highway, Millsboro, DE 19966.
