MILLINGTON, MD - Betty Fleetwood Van Sant passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 at University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown, due to complications of pneumonia. Betty was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to James and Mabel Pearson Fleetwood. She married Ken Van Sant, son of Edward and Pearl Everett Van Sant, in 1951. Betty had attended school in Millington and later worked at K&B Builders, where she had co-owned the business with her husband, Ken. K&B Builders was located in Millington, Md. which served as their main hub. As their business grew, other offices were created in Grasonville, MD and Dover. Most of the homes built, can be found throughout Maryland and Delaware, with the majority here on the Eastern Shore (Kent and Queen Anne's County). Betty was also a successful real estate agent with Whiteley-Champion Realtors of Chestertown for over 25 years, until her retirement in 2006. Betty was also a member of the Chestertown Seventh-day Adventist Church. She volunteered at the churches' food bank, when her health allowed. Her laughter and joyful spirit will be missed! Surviving are a daughter, Karen Sigler of Chestertown, and her husband, Gene; two sons, Michael Van Sant of Kennedyville and Kelly Van Sant of Centreville/Germantown, and his wife, Laura; and eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; Virginia Fleetwood (sister-in-law); and Ray Van Sant (brother-in-law), and his wife Sarah, of Millington. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mabel; her brothers, Oscar and Jim; her husband, Ken; and brother-in-law, Harry Van Sant. A "Celebration of her Life" will be held on Jan. 8, 2017 at the Chestertown Seventh-day Adventist Church at 11 am. The address is as follows: 305 North Kent St., Chestertown, MD 21620. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in her name to the Memorial Fund at Chester River Adventist School (address listed above). Arrangements made by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Millington.
