Betty Ann Miller Cockburn, 71

PAXTON, Ill. - Betty Ann Miller Cockburn of Paxton, formerly of Dover, Del., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, in Champaign. She was 71.

Mrs. Cockburn was born March 20, 1936, in Massena, N.Y., daughter of the late Clifford and Maria (Holden) Miller.

She graduated from Massena High School in 1954 and attended Potsdam State College, where she majored in education and music.

In 1957, she married George G. Cockburn Jr. at the Potsdam Episcopal Church in Potsdam, N.Y. After living in Virginia, Alabama and Texas, the couple settled in Dover, where they developed Cobel"s, a successful retail arts, crafts and hobbies business.

Mrs. Cockburn had a superb talent for crafting and taught many people in the Dover area in many facets of the art.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Cockburn Jr., on Aug. 10, 1998.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, George Gordon and Brenda Cockburn of Paxton, and Steven Daniel and Denise Cockburn of Champaign; five grandchildren, Steven Daniel Cockburn and Jerrica Gallegos, both of Champaign, Mark Alen Cockburn of Dover, and Mindy Collier and Hillary Sawyer, both of Paxton; two granddaughters, Aubree Sawyer and Lauren Sawyer, both of Paxton; a brother, Robert Charles Miller of Massena; and two sisters, Helen Vera Adams and Linda Mary Miller, both of Albany, N.Y.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Christ Episcopal Church, 501 S. State St., Dover. A viewing will be held 7 to 9 p.m. in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover.

Interment will be beside her late husband in the Christ Episcopal Church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Carle Hospice at the Carle Development Foundation, 611 W. Park St., Urbana, IL 61851.
