Bernie Schiera, 67
DOVER - Bernie Schiera, of Dover, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, April 7, 2008, after a long struggle with lung disease, riding that motorcycle to the sky, he departed, characteristically, on his own terms and in his own style. He was 67.
Bernie owned an accounting practice in Easton, Md., for 20 years before passing the reins to his son, Randy, and retiring to Dover four years ago.
Previously Bernie had worked for Country Pride Foods in Easton and Arkansas, and Universal Foods and Bucyrus Erie in Milwaukee.
Raised in Milwaukee, along with his sister, Ann Visocky, he was the only son of John and Ann Schiera.
He attended Riverside High School; his crooked nose was a lifetime testament to his high school football career.
Bernie went on to earn an accounting degree from Spencerian College and along the way married his wife, Sandie, to whom he was devoted for 46 years.
Their three children, Randy, Shelly, and Tony, along with their families, lived in close proximity to Bernie and he often spent time with his seven grandchildren, traveling, laughing, and enjoying good food together.
Bernie had a ready smile and an easy laugh. Those involved in the Dover Elks, Maryland Society of Accountants or the American Motorcycle Association know how he valued and enjoyed a good joke.
Whether he was baking bread, bowling, or cruising on his bike, he did it with vivacity and zeal.
A celebration of his life will be 3 p.m. April 27 in the Wild Meadows Club House, Dover.
