HARRINGTON - Bernice Marie Hrupsa of Harrington passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 81.
Mrs. Hrupsa was born in Mastens Corner, daughter of the late Ernest and Elsie Tucker.
She graduated from Harrington High School in 1945. She then continued her studies at Goldey-Beacom College.
Mrs. Hrupsa worked at Playtex for several years as a secretary. Her full-time job, however, was raising her family and helping out on the family farm.
She was instrumental in helping her husband grow poultry for Pizzadelli and Schiff farms. She also helped out growing honey bees and harvesting honey.
Mrs. Hrupsa was a fabulous mom and a great cook. She looked forward to family get-togethers and spending time with her family. She loved to spoil her grandchildren.
She collected hummingbirds and she enjoyed feeding the different kinds of birds at home. She raised ducks on the farm as well, and enjoyed maintaining her flower beds.
She will be sadly missed by her close-knit family and friends.
Mrs. Hrupsa was a member of the Harrington Senior Center, Delaware Farm Bureau, Harrington Alumni and the Saint Bernadette Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Holly Hrupsa.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Frank Hrupsa of Harrington; sons and daughter-in-law, Frank G. and Carol Hrupsa of Harrington and David P. Hrupsa of Felton; daughters, Kathryn Gooden of Harrington and Deborah Hrupsa of Harrington; an uncle, Norman Tucker of Wilmington; grandchildren, Amy Hrupsa, Laura Gooden-Jopp and her husband Kevin, John Gooden and his wife Stephanie, Billy Joe Hrupsa, James Gooden and his fiancee Angie Tigner, Joseph Hrupsa and Frank C. Hrupsa; and her great-grandchildren, Kody, Robby and Chase Jopp.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington, where a visitation will be one hour prior.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Holly Hrupsa Memorial Scholarship Fund, Felton Bank, c/o Susan Welch, P.O. Box 266, Felton, DE 19943.
