Barbara Jean 'Barb J.' Burchell, 75

DOVER - Barbara Jean "Barb J." Burchell, of Dover, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, in her home, with her loving family by her side. She was 75.

She was born May 7, 1932, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Arthur E. and Elizabeth C. Lodge.

Mrs. Burchell graduated from Wilmington High School in 1950.

She enjoyed animals and over the past 38 years she and her husband raised 14 dogs, dozens of cats and also raised rabbits for several years.

Mrs. Burchell enjoyed growing houseplants, collecting salt and pepper shakers, doing ceramics, doing counted cross stitch, crocheting, sewing and reading.

She sold Avon for a few years and belonged to the Harlequin book club for 10 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Rose S. "Rosie" Lodge; and her brother, Arthur E. "Bunky" Lodge Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, George W. Burchell; a daughter, Beth M. "Bambi" Fox of Prunedale, Calif.; a son, Glenn A. Burchell; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie A. and Robert J. Adams of Camden; a sister and brother-in-law, Ardeth A. and F. Thomas Savage of Delaware; a half-brother, John A. Lodge of Delaware; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many special friends and neighbors from Delaware, including Henry and Alma Byler and their family, Bill and Elizabeth Goodman and Mary Sue Daniels, and three special teenagers, Derrek, Alex and Juliana Jones and their parents, Leslie and Jeff, and Kathy Esposito and Sheila Wiles of Elma, N.Y.

Services and burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
