Aubrey Phillips Murray, 84
MILLSBORO - Aubrey Phillips Murray of Millsboro died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, in his home. He was 84.
Mr. Murray was a veteran of World War II, serving the 5th Air Force in the South Pacific as an engineer gunner on the B-24 Liberator Bomber. He also served in the occupation of Japan.
He enjoyed a long and accomplished life that included being a partner of Collins & Ryan Gas Co., past president of the Delmarva Gas Association, past vice chairman of Millsboro Board of Sussex Trust Co. and past president of the Millsboro Chapter of the American Field Service.
As past advancement chairman of Delmarva Council Boy Scouts of America, Mr. Murray was most proud that his son was an Eagle Scout.
He was a life member of American Legion posts 22 and 28, Sons of the American Revolution and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7422.
At one time, he also served as a vestryman of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church, Millsboro.
Mr. Murray authored and published four books, "Rambling Around Millsboro," "Millsboro Honor Roll," "Small Town USA" and "Oak Orchard-Riverdale-Long Neck." He also co-wrote with his wife "Magyar Lace."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard F. Jr. and Beatrice A. Murray.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen (Magyari) Murray; a son and a daughter-in-law, Randy Kevin and Sharyn Murray; and a brother, Millard F. Murray III of Millsboro.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in St. Mark's Episcopal Church, State Street, Millsboro.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery.
The Rev. David Archibald will officiate.
