Nichols, Sr., 81
DOVER - Arthur Paul Nichols, Sr. passed away peacefully May 13, 2021 at his home.
Art was born on May 9, 1940 in Washington, DC. He was the son of the late Ambrose W. and Mary Estelle (Yerkes) Nichols. In addition to his parents; Art was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Gay (Olsen); two sisters, Pauline and Dorothy; two brothers, Ambrose W. "Nick," and James.
He was a 1958 graduate of Mackin HS in Washington, DC, where he excelled in academics, played basketball, and had a love for fast cars. His dry sense of humor will be remembered and will be shared for generations to come. He was the rock of our family.
Art was a hard worker with strong ethics. He was a salesman/management for various companies in the DC area for over 40 years. He later owned a Wise Chip business and after that he bought a "chuck wagon", which he named "Sara's Snax". It was during this time (1988) that he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). His last job was in sales at Village Carpets.
Art is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years, Sara (Vaughan-Ammons); his four children, Lisa Marie (Kory) Johnson, Arthur Paul Jr., Lynette Ann Nichols, and Lorie Nichols-Kannee. His 14 grandchildren are: Melissa (Andrew) Himmelfarb, Clarissa (Taylor) Adams, Wesley and Conner Nichols; Kyle, Corey, Kendyll and Caylee Neveau, Johnny and Callysta Sagarino, Kirbee and Kaleb Johnson, Aiden Nichols, Addison Kannee; and his 1st great-granddaughter, Georgia Riley Adams. Other family members are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff of Delaware Hospice.
