CAMDEN - Arthur Leonard Hewitt, born Sept. 13, 1939, of Camden, passed away peacefully Nov. 3, 2010, at Heartland Hospice in Wilmington, after suffering a stroke in August 2010. Art was born in Mattoon, Ill., and graduated from Ridgeville High School in Ridgeville, Ind. He served 4 years in the Air Force before being honorably discharged and then attending college where he obtained a degree in Manufacturing Engineering. He worked many places, including General Foods in Dover, Hollywood Brands, Midwest Potato, and Delaware State University, and was the sole proprietor since 1987 of Blue Hen Electric Company. He was third of eleven children born to Leonard and Wilma Hewitt and the beloved husband of Jean Hewitt for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard; brother, Lyle Hewitt; sister, Linda Jackson; and son, Sean Hewitt. He is survived by his mother, Wilma; wife, Jean; brothers, Robert, James, Kent, and William Hewitt; sisters, Eleanor Leap, Janet Vaughn, Teresa Berwick, and Jo Ellen Hewitt; children, Cindi Pallmann and Chad Hewitt; son-in-law, Matthew Pallmann; and beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Torrin, and Ian Pallmann. Art loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy the last 7 years was his grandchildren. Art was always ready to lend a hand and maintained his sense of humor until the very end. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, Nov. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at Southside Baptist Church, 4904 S. Dupont Hwy., Dover. Immediately following, Art will be interred at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, 2928 Sharon Hill Rd., Dover. The family requests instead of flowers, that donations be made to Heartland Hospice, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808; to Southside Baptist Church, 4904 S. Dupont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901; or to a trust fund for the grandchildren being set up by their grandmother, Jean Hewitt, in memory of Art Hewitt. Checks to the trust fund can be made out to Jean Hewitt or "In Memory of Art Hewitt Trust." Letters of condolences may be sent to www.delmarvaobits.com or traderfh@aol.com.
