Anna Marie Fortney, 95
Anna Marie Fortney went to meet her Lord on April 1, 2021.
Anna was born in Denton, Maryland on April 27, 1925 to Manuel and Cora Edith Wilhelm Lane.
After graduation from Ridgely High School she married Marvin E. Fortney and raised a family. They lived on farms and she milked Dairy cows for Pet Milk Company, until they bought a farm outside Hartly on Taraila road in November of 1958. She became a cub scout mother and later babysat for other families.
She enjoyed camping with her family, planting flowers and shopping for tea pots. In later years, while bed ridden she enjoyed nature watching and her family fed the birds and squirrels raw peanuts.
In addition to her parents; and stepfather, Mark Manlove Cole; she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, of over 59 years; a brother-in-law, Larry Lockner; sons-in-laws, Joseph R. Adams and Lloyd Sonny Stackhouse; an infant grandson, Michael Ray Slaughter; grandson, Joseph Rusty Adams; brothers, Charles Mark Cole, Manuel Lane, Jr., Walter Augustus Lane; sister, Lydia L. Lockner; sister-in-laws, Evelyn Marie Cole, Virginia May Lane, Doris Lane and Maryetta Guessford Lane.
She is survived by her half-brother, Nate Cole and his wife, Geraldine, of Ridgely, Maryland; her children, Raymond L. Fortney, who was her caregiver, of Dover, Katherine Stackhouse, of Hartly, Marvin E. Fortney, Jr. and his wife, Sumako, of Hartly, Anna Naomi Spinka, of Georgetown and Henry D. Fortney and his wife, Jennifer, of Hartly; ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren with another due in June.
Kristina Marie Fortney helped to take care of her grandmother these past years in the hospital and at home. Barbara Glover provided Mom-mom her favorites, biscuits and gravy as well as chicken and dumplings. Barbara Melvin adopted daughter and personal shopper; was her hairdresser.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tiffany, Donna, Amanda and Michelle C. of Seasons Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
The services will be private.
