GREENWOOD - Alice M. Butler-Jenkins of Greenwood died, after a lengthy illness, Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, in Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. She was 73.
Mrs. Butler-Jenkins was born May 20, 1934, in Dorchester County, Md., daughter of the late John Francis Butler and Lola Adams Butler.
She attended school in Dorchester County.
She was employed for many years as a U.S. Department of Agriculture poultry inspector. Her job carried her to many poultry plants, Perdue in Salisbury, Md., Cordova, Md., Milford, Harbeson and others.
Mrs. Butler-Jenkins' passion was being on Seaford's women's bowling league.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel C. Butler; seven sisters, Helen Stanley, Mary Lake, Lena Montgomery, Mildred Nichols, Ida Mae Bolden, Zelma Butler and Katherine Simms; and four brothers, Alfred Butler, Wilbert Butler, Frankie Butler and Raymond Butler.
She is survived by a son, Royce A. Butler of Greenwood; two daughters, Clara Ann Mason and Gemina Greene, both of Greenwood, whom she raised as loving daughters; 12 grandchildren, Tasha Aikens, and her husband, Steve, Samuel C. Butler Jr., Melissa Butler, Timothy Smith, Dionysus Butler, Erica Lynn Robinson, Rick Welch, Natea Welch, Jamina Greene, Jerry Greene, Cherrywood Reed and Caroline Reed; a sister, Christine Williamson of Boston; a sister-in-law, Mable Butler of Hurlock, Md.; a host of great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
Services will be noon Tuesday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Hurlock, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Federal Hill Cemetery, Federalsburg, Md.
