Alberta Gaines

LAUREL - Alberta Gaines died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. Born in Laurel, she was the daughter of the late Noah H. Bradley and Maggie A. Parker. Her husband, Tennyson Gaines, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Gaines was a member of Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Laurel, where she was the church mother and served as a deaconess, missionary and stewardess. She will be lovingly remembered by: three daughters, Evon Handy of Laurel, Linda Handy of Laurel and Millicent Handy of Salisbury, Md.; one sister, Pauline Parker of Laurel; one brother, Henry Parker of Concord; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Handy. Mrs. Gaines will lie in repose on Saturday, May 21, 2016, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, 315 Townsend Street, Laurel. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Rev. Rosalyn Winder will officiate. Interment will follow at New Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Laurel. A ministry of comfort and dignity is being provided by Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home, P.A. in Salisbury.
