Albert Romain 'Click' Morris, 81

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Albert Romain "Click" Morris, of Chestertown, died Dec. 19, 2008, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. He was 81. The son of the late Elwood R. and Bessie Ella Newton Morris, he was a lifelong Eastern Shoreman. Click was employed by the Maryland State Highway Administration for 29 years. He retired in 1983, as the resident maintenance engineer with the Easton district. Prior to that he was assigned to the SHA's construction inspection division. Click was a distinguished veteran, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post No. 36, Chestertown. Click loved to play golf and was a member of Chester River Yacht & Country Club for more than 60 years, joining the club as a junior member in the early 1940s. He was an active member of the Maryland Interclub Senior Golf Association. In 1983, he brought the Delmarva Peninsula Golf Association's annual seniors championship back to CRY&CC for the first time in 13 years, taking high honors in the 56-60 age group and capturing the overall championship in a field of players from Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Click is survived by his wife of 23 years, Nancy Russell Morris; two daughters, Jennifer Morris of Ocean City, and Martha Prassenos of Escatawpa, Miss.; two sons, Albert R. Morris Jr. of Harrisonburg, Va., and Joseph A. Morris of Rock Hall; two stepdaughters, Patricia McGee of Chestertown, and Dioica of Missoula, Mont.; two stepsons, Emmett McGee Jr. of Baltimore, and Timothy R. McGee of Phoenix; and a brother, William Elwood Morris of Chestertown. He also is survived by six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Click was predeceased by a sister, Mary Louise Morris. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Click's memory be made to the Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post No. 36 or the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown.
