DOVER - Albert John Schmidt passed away Tues., May 28, 2013 at Kent General Hospital. Mr. Schmidt was born Nov. 10, 1930 in Passaic, N.J. to the late Joseph Schmidt and Marie Lloyd Schmidt. He served in the United States Air Force retiring on July 21, 1974 as CM Sgt. After his military career he worked for the Dover Federal Credit Union retiring as Vice President. He was a life member of the American Legion. Mr. Schmidt was awarded the 2005 Presidential Leadership award, from Dover Federal Credit Union, now named in his honor. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening, working and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie Surovec Schmidt of Dover; son, Albert Schmidt and his wife Cheryl of Dover; daughter, Lorielee Harrison and her husband Frank of Dover; grandchildren, Albert and Beth Schmidt of Camden, Andrew, Alexander, and Adam Schmidt all of Dover, Leighann Harrison of Dover, Amanda Gommer of Dover; great-grandchildren, Jordan Visconti, Ashlyn, Savannah and Aiden Schmidt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., May 31, 2013 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State Street, Dover, DE. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Bay Health Kent General Hospital, Nursing Department, 640 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901.
