DOVER - Adele R. Gibbs of Dover passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007, in Westminster Nursing Home, Dover, following a brief illness. She was 84.
Mrs. Gibbs was born March 3, 1923, in Rahway, N.J., daughter of the late John and Anna Hassell.
She was employed by the Delaware State Police, retiring Feb. 1, 2007, with more than 20 years of service. Prior to that, she was employed by Bell Telephone in Ocean City, Md. and Dover.
She and her late husband, Kendall, owned and operated the Gibbs Bus Co. in Dover and Middletown for many years.
Mrs. Gibbs was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Dover and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Girl Scout Council and as a volunteer at numerous summer camps.
Adele, a loving wife and mother, was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; and her husband, Kendall.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara G. Deakyne of Rehoboth Beach.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, in First Baptist Church, 301 Walker Road, Dover, where friends may call at 9:30 a.m.
Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Services, 261 Chapman Road, Suite 100, Newark, DE 19702; or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131.
