SEAFORD - A. Jeannette Welch of Seaford, formerly of Harrington, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, in LifeCare Lofland Park, Seaford after a long illness. She was 77.
Mrs. Welch was born April 27, 1929, in Chestertown, Md., daughter of the late Fredrick Gustaf and Anna Geneva (Bradley) Gustafson.
She began working at the Mulholland Spoon Mill. After she was married, she became a homemaker and very loving mother who dedicated her life to her family. In the 1970s, she worked for a short time as a seamstress at CooperSmith's, Milford.
She bowled for many years at the Milford Bowling Lanes and loved reading, crocheting, telling stories about her life and spending time with her family. She loved people and would sit for hours watching people out her window.
Mrs. Welch was a lifelong member of the Harrington Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Louis C. Welch in 2004; a brother, Fredrick G. Gustafson Jr.; two sisters, Glendora Editha Gustafson and Thelma Natalie Tatman Shahan; a daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Welch; and a great-grandson, Snyder Cerillo.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Louis C. Welch of Dover, Edward L. and Cheryl Welch of Harrington and Donald E. Welch of Camden; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Deborah A. and Robert White of Houston, Bonnie L. and Robert Smith of Harrington, Brenda S. and John Morris of Harrington and Mildred E. and Mark Stewart of Seaford; two brothers, Robert Gustafson of Marydel and Paul Gustafson of Harrington; a sister, G. Faith Short of Clayton; 17 grandchildren, Matthew Welch, Eric Welch, Tamara Welch, Ryan Welch, Jennifer White, Robert Smith, Christopher Smith, Kevin Smith, Brian Smith, Jaime Blythe, Tobias Cerillo, Christina Cerillo, Patricia Cerillo, Melissa Murphy, D. Tyler Welch, D. Charles Welch and D. Louis Welch; 14 great-grandchildren; and her extended family, her special caregivers at LifeCare Lofland Park.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in McKnatt, Carpenter and Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, where friends may call an hour and a half earlier.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, U.S. 14, Harrington.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the A. Jeannette Welch Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o LifeCare at Lofland Park, 715 E. King St., Seaford, DE 19973.
