YOSHIKO HAHN

Yoshiko Hahn passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Yoshiko was born March 31, 1933 in Nagoya, Japan. She was united in marriage to Norman H. Hahn Sr. on March 13, 1951 at Misawa Air Base, Japan. As a result of her husband's military career she did reside in Japan, Arizona, Washington State, New York, England, Germany, Louisiana, and Delaware. Married for 40 years, her husband preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1992. Yoshiko was granted U.S. Citizenship in 1962. Yoshiko was a devoted military wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, steadfast friend and accomplished homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, her specialty was Japanese food. Over the years she became a talented seamstress and enjoyed making origami figurines for family and friends. Yoshiko enjoyed singing Japanese songs with her Japanese friends, keeping the love of her native culture alive in the United States. She found much joy in making prayer beads for Service members serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. First and foremost she reveled in and was proud of all her children's accomplishments. Her loving pet dog Chibbi-san will miss her dearly. She is survived by her seven children, Diana (Dennis) Maczynski, Camden, Del., Janet (Colin) Faulkner, Wyoming, Del., COL (Ret) Norman (Donna Wingard) Hahn Jr USAR, Wyoming, Del., Col John (Susan) Hahn USMC (Ret), Macomb, Mich., SFC Reynold (Mechelle) Hahn USA, Camden, Del., Bryan (Tanya) Hahn, Camden, Del., and James Hahn, Camden, Del.; six grandchildren Destiny Pires, Jennifer Maczynski, Christine and Christopher Faulkner, Jimmy Hahn Jr, Landon Hahn; and five great-grandchildren Gabriel Faulkner , Jacob Lawson, and James, Claire and Ethan Pires. A private funeral service will be conducted with burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Yoshiko may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
