Winnie Mae (Swing) Wills, 91
TOWNSEND, DE - Winnie Mae (Swing) Wills passed away peacefully on June 4, 2023. Born in Cambridge, MD on July 15, 1931, was the daughter of the late Ethel Lee (Bradshaw) Swing and James Patterson Swing, Jr. DDS.
Winnie was a long distance operator for C & P Telephone in Cambridge, MD and Elkton, MD. She was also a directory assistance operator for Diamond State Telephone in Wilmington, DE and later a frame attendant in Wilmington before transferring to Dover where she retired with 30 years service. Winnie worked on the frame in numerous offices throughout Delaware and was well respected by her bosses and coworkers for her work ethic and meticulous work.
Winnie's hobbies included horses, horses, and horses. She was an active member of the EAAHSC (Eastern Amateur Arabian Horse Show Circuit) for many years and has had at least one horse (normally more) for 75 years.
Winnie also enjoyed playing bingo at Meadow Crest Assisted Living in Middletown where she resided for 6 months. She is known by friends and family for her red cinnamon applesauce and her love of chocolate. She was also a fan and watched and cheered on the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.
Winnie is survived by her brother, James Patterson Swing, III and wife Dee of Ellicott City, MD; her children, Gene R. Wills (Gail) of West Grove, PA, Carolyn "Carol" Gibison-Wills of Smyrna, DE, James L. Wills, Sr. of Newark, DE and Douglas Karl Wills (Pam) of Smyrna, DE; seven grandchildren, Michael Warner (Stacey), Katherine Gibison Yu (Jawray), Samantha Gibison Campbell (Shaun), James L. Wills, Jr. (Jaime), Jennifer McClellan (Skip) and Aaron Tharp (Mary); 12 great grandchildren; and her Arabian horse, WW Sirius Kopy Kat AKA "Buddy".
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel "Punky" Cox; her grandson, Tony Tharp; and her favorite horse, Macho's Debutante AKA "Bean"; and dog, Poofer.
A Celebration of Life will be 3:00PM, Thursday, July 6, 2023 with a gathering of friends and family from 2:00PM to 3:00PM at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to your favorite animal rescue in her name.
