William T. Cox Jr., 82

SMYRNA - William T. Cox Jr., passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, in Courtland Manor Nursing and Convalescent Home in Dover. He was 82. Mr. Cox was born April 27, 1926 in Smyrna Landing, the son of the late William T. Cox Sr. and Daisy Walls Cox. In Mr. Cox's earlier years, he worked for Diamond Supply Company and later for Wilson Cabinet, both in Smyrna and was a former co-owner of C&C Plumbing. He retired from Delaware State University as a plumbing contractor. Mr. Cox was a United States Army veteran of World War II where he drove an M-7 tank called the "Armageddon", on which Gen. George Patton once rode and was considered quite an honor. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8801 and the American Legion, David C. Harrison Post 14, both in Smyrna. He was also a life member of Citizens Hose Company 1 in Smyrna. Mr. Cox enjoyed camping in Chincoteague, Va. with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Daniels Cox on June 8, 2008; a brother, Richard Cox; and two sisters, Betty Plass and Sandra Schaffer. He is survived by two sons, William L. Cox Sr. and his wife Sandra of Warwick, Pa., and David E. Cox and his wife Charlene of Clayton; a daughter, Helen R. Lewis and her husband Mark of Clayton; a brother, Edgar Cox of Smyrna; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery Townsend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901; or to Citizens Hose Company 1, P.O. Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977.
