OCEAN VIEW - William R. "Bob" Conaway, age 82, of Ocean View, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, with his family by his side. Mr. Conaway was born in Greenwood, son of the late Charles H. and Virginia (Lyons) Conaway. Mr. Conaway was a lifelong farmer who managed the Newton Farm in Bridgeville. He graduated in 1950 from the University of Delaware with a BS in Poultry Pathology. He was a man of great conviction and was the consummate community leader who served tirelessly on many fronts. Some of the organizations that benefited from his insights were the Woodbridge School Board that he served from 1968 to 1972 and in 1969 served as Director of the Delaware State School Board Association. From 1969 to 1973, he was State Committeeman, Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service; 1979-1980 he served as President of the UD Agriculture Alumni Association; and in 1978 and again in 1981 he was appointed by Gov. DuPont to the Council on Soil and Water Conservation. He was Director of the Delaware Agriculture Museum; a trustee of Union United Methodist Church, Bridgeville; and former President of Quillen's Point Homeowners Association. Mr. Conaway was an avid photographer and took great pleasure in creating wood carvings of birds. Above all else, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Joanna (Newton) Conaway; two sons, Kevin S. Conaway and wife Lisa of Bridgeville and Guy S. Conaway and wife Marybeth of Portland, Ore.; two grandsons, Drew and Josh Conaway, both of Portland; and one sister, Charlotte Conaway of Seaford. The Conaway family invites you to join them in remembering and celebrating Bob's life on Saturday, April 9, 2011, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., at Magnolia's Seafood Bar & Grill, 30415 Cedar Neck Road, Bethany Beach. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or to the SPCA, 22918 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Ocean View. Please visit Mr. Conaway's Life Memorial and sign the online guestbook at www.parsellfuneralhomes.com.
