William D. Curtin Jr., 83

FELTON - William D. Curtin Jr. of Felton died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, in her home. He was 83.

He was born Dec. 31, 1923, on New Street, in Dover, son of William D. Sr. and Martha L (Cook) Curtin. He was raised mostly in West Chester, Pa.

Mr. Curtin entered the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1943. He served in the Atlantic on the USS Sturtevent and then in the Pacific on the USS Talowa during the war. A few years after the war, he rejoined the Navy and finished with 20 years of service, during which time he also served on the USS Newport News and the USS Ticonderoga, retiring at the rank of petty officer. He retired from civil service after 16 years, working mostly as a maintenance mechanic on the Dover Air Force Base.

He lived near Felton for 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Glanden, in 1996.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Naomi Curtin, of Silver Lake Center, Dover; and a son, William J Curtin of near Farmington.

Services will be Saturday at noon in Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour before the time of the service. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite 202, Dover, DE 19904.
